Port Kembla Chimney

Breathtaking in size, this is a monochrome photograph of the iconic Port Kembla Copper company chimney stack, which stood for decades dominating the Illawarra skyline.

This 200-metre-high chimney, built in 1965 from about 7,000 tonnes of concrete, bricks and steel, towered over the high school next to it. It was brought down in a controlled explosion on 20 Feb 2014. A lasting memory for many.
